Everyone is moving to Scottsdale and home values will keep increasing --- as long as City Planners can stick to sustainability plans and social responsibility initiatives; as well as continue to integrate smart technologies and biomimicry principles to thoughtfully support the growing infrastructure.
Much smaller town, better value (2x square footage home on 1-3 treed acres) for same cost of house in Phoenix on small desert lot. Retirement home/hobby farm near friends and family.
Safer
I met the man of my dreams and he has a great place for us in Coronado. I'm leaving 115 degree weather for a house 8 blocks from the beach. It's going to cost more to live but my sanity and my brain will no longer be fried.
Out of necessity (for medical school)
We are interested in moving due to failed leadership regarding COVID-19 in our state. Arizona has shown its true colors as a Republican-strong state, dismissing masks, opening too early and complete disregard for its people. We don’t feel safe anymore and prefer to live in a more liberal, fact-based environment!
Everything is closed. No point in living in an overpriced downtown "luxury" apt complex if the amenities and everything around it is closed.
We are moving primarily to be closer to family. Literally the only reason we live in the Bay Area is so that I can go into work every day. Now that my work is on "work from home" through the end of 2020, my kids can't go play with their friends, and my wife is struggling to relaunch her career in the middle of a global pandemic, there's no good reason for us to keep paying $5k/mo for rent when we can pay far less for a much more comfortable "work from home" life and be around the corner from our parents in case they need us. It's not clear what 2021 will bring, but I'm optimistic that, even if my current job doesn't let me keep working remotely, there are more companies out there that will be looking to hire remote tech teams.
Living with a friend now and moving closer to the city into an apartment
The Northwest, particularly the Puget Sound (Seattle area), is turning into another Bay Area. Which is where I came from 15 years ago. I see the overcrowding, failed infrastructure, and home prices going through the roof, just like they did in the Bay Area. Time to make another move!
Seattle is out of control, financially and politically
Weather
Paying way too much and not getting the same value anymore.
What I can OWN in phoenix vs. what I pay to RENT is San Francisco is pretty drastic. Its just a financial decision and allows me to have more disposable income to put towards investment and retirement and hopefully gain equity in a home instead of bleeding 3K in rent for a studio apartment.
Better business opportunities
My goal is to live in Phoenix near family and without snow! I anticipate going from 107.5k salary to around 150k. The cost of living difference is minimal between where I live now and Phoenix.
Politics, Taxes
I moved to Chicago from Phoenix in November 2019. Then everything shut down due to covid 19. When everything opened up, people started killing young children again. I'm moving back to Phoenix.
Crime sistemic racism
We’re probably an outlier because we are moving from a house in the suburbs of metro Phoenix into a condo in Phoenix. Now that we can work from home our commutes are no longer a factor so we want to live where we’re closer to more amenities.
I said no I wasn’t moving because I already did. In March, I packed up my apartment in Boston and put everything in storage. I jumped on a plane with four suit cases, my dog and a plant to Arizona. I didn’t know what was going to happen with the pandemic and I thought that being around family would be better than paying $3K a month on a apartment in a closed city. I said I’d never move back to Arizona but here we are and I’m happy with my decision. If, I mean when, this is all over, then I’ll have saved a good amount of money to buy wherever I want to move.
