New position will be based in the Austin office.
At our company Christmas party, my best friend turned to me and asked if I wanted to buy a house together so we could both build equity. By February, we had put down our construction deposit. We're hoping to move in next month assuming the construction continues to be on track. Now that we're on indefinite work from home, the timing couldn't be better - I'm excited to have a little more space!
I want to be there when things start picking up again.
Better business opportunities
I have lived in SLC my entire life. I want a new experience and have always wanted to live in a big city once I graduated. Being a West Coast kid I see SF as the big city with outdoors still accessible. I want to own my own venture firm and SF gives me the best experience to do so. Be as expensive as SF is, it still gives the best opportunity for my career path.
Why stay in a city that I can't even see my best friends in without Covid fears? I might as well move to an island and go hiking everyday.
Need a different kind of house than I thought I would 15 years ago
The difference between the two counties is STAGGERING. My current one is very red, very anti-mask, very 'murica and religious (Mormon). The other is outside a ski town, populated with people who've fled big cities for an outdoorsy life (far bluer). They are kind, compassionate and look after one another. Masks are everywhere. It's mind-blowing how different the two places are when barely any miles separate them. I have two tween boys and a coparent, so for now I'm stuck in this country, but my sights are on Spain, Malaysia, and several other community-generic places. I'm a ghostwriter who's always worked from "home," now that I'm homeschooling (apparently) there's no reason to stay within 10 minutes of their school. (And they learn more in the wild anyway!!)

Got a better tech job in SLC. Basically the same salary but with mountains 10 minutes from my office. And work is cancelled if there’s more than 8” of new snow :)
Born and raised in Colorado, the culture and cost of living have changed significantly over the last 15 years... and our traffic is taking its hand at rivaling LA's. Denver used to be a fun place, with nice people. Now it's a semi-fun place, full of angry transplants that can't get a 1k sq ft house house for under $350k. Fortunately, Salt Lake City still has big, beautiful mountains, it's less populated, and people are waaaaay nicer there.
I'm getting married!

I pay rent in Bellevue as I was expected to be in the office for "facetime" with leadership. Now I have been sitting alone in 750 sq feet for 4 months with no return to office in site. I have no family or friends here, only work. The communist leadership of western Washington and the state of Washington is out of control and I fear they will lock down the state and I will not be allowed to leave as we get closer to the election.
The pandemic completely upended my values. From enjoying the vibrant crowds and beaches of sunny, expensive California with 4 hustles to afford life here, I’m throwing in the towel for now to live with family in a safe, connected, pastoral landscape. I figure if I’m going to be locked inside for the foreseeable future, I may as well pay less and be with family while I work remotely.
We are moving because my company is allowing me to work from home permanently and we want to live closer to our aging parents. We are also excited about the much lower cost of living. We were able to make a significant profit on our starter home in a high cost market and buy our "forever" home with the proceeds in a lower cost market.

My wife and I just retired as a university Professors. The education system is in financial straits and it is too damn cold here in the winter to stay. Great summers, winter sucks
