The S.F. Bay Area has been "home" my whole 58 years of life. So much has changed, with the Cons outweighing the Pros by a fair margin...traffic, rents, "community" degrading (although Covid actually seemed to improve this, somewhat)...I was just getting tired of the speed of the rat race. (Plus, my daughter moved out, we became empty-nesters, and another big reason for staying went away). LOVING my new community...feels like I'm on vacation...but it's my HOUSE!
We have two year old twins and decided to move out of the city so we could afford more house to allow the kids to each have their own room. We have sold our home and currently living with my Mother-in-law until the house is finished.
Unsustainable spending in CA and San Jose on poor choices that will continue to raise taxes, reduce essentially services and create a poverty economy. Liberal politics in the state attempt to appease everyone under the flag of equality but while the basic human idea to treat one another fairly has translated into unsustainable programs as an ever increasing line item in my taxes and with an ever- increasing lawlessness and indifference to enforcement of laws with politicians who have little, if bad sense creating projects that cannot add the value to cost ratio (train to nowhere). Governing needs to be the equalizer of the many, not the valet of everyone's personal need to be satisfied. California has lost it's way and companies will leave with talent. I am just jumping into the torrent before the torrent turns to dry creekbed. Ask Vermont how their politics worked out as they now need to pay people to move there...California, are you listening.
Closer to new job, lower cost
My husband and I are fully remote workers and we have a toddler. We currently live in an apartment building. Since COVID-19 isn't going away for at least another year, we felt it was important to have our own entrance, our own garage, an office, and to be within easy driving distance of our families. Plus, we will be saving well over $1,000/month by leaving the Bay Area. Hell yes.
More home and land for your money, about 25 minutes south of Silicon Valley
We decided to move out of the Silicon Valley because the cost of living is extraordinarily high. Gas prices, real estate, goods and services, taxes etc. Also competition for jobs is tremendous and it’s difficult to make a living even as a professional. Finally quality of life has been compromised with all the traffic, people, chaos, protests, construction pollution, and noise.
At 23 I decided to live in San Jose to save money even though I spent every other weekend in SF on a couch. Now, it has become a little more obvious that I do not want to wait around. $400/mo to be closer to the people I care about has become totally worth it. [Rare person moving into the SF, not leaving].

Buying a home. Rates are too tempting.
Moving as our family lives in Seattle additionally we are sick of paying ridiculous prices for living in the Bay.

Lease is up and I graduated! Time to leave the bubble and head home to start training remote. I'll eventually take advantage of SF reduced rent to get a place of my own.
Moved out of my SF apartment back to my parents’ in San Jose. My sister, 3 coworkers, and 2 of my other housemates did as well. The point of living in the city was to be close to other people, but now that’s not an option, why pay expensive rent?
