My wife's family decided to move out of Southern California... So we decided to follow them to Idaho. I traveled to the Boise area for the first time ever in June. We bought a new house and the build will be complete September 1st. I met a lot of California baby boomers selling their houses in the $1 million range and buying a new house in Idaho in the $400,000 range. There were a lot of Baby Boomers moving there for retirement. There's no single reason the family move. But here they are: - Lower taxes and expenses (gas, utilities). - Get away from politics / social issues in California - Simpler way of live. A little more space. - The Boise area has pretty good weather and a major airport. The biggest thing on my end is there's no strategic business reason for my family to stay in California. I've worked remote for years and grew up in the Midwest so I understand there's life outside of the Sunshine state.
My company operates completely remote and since covid happened physical presence is not going to be a thing anytime soon, so I’m moving to a bigger and cheaper house.
My apartment lease in Newport Beach is expiring (My portion of the two bedroom is $1400). Given that I was told by my company “expect not to be in the office until 2021”, I will not be signing a lease and will be moving back in with parents temporarily to save money. I am 25 years old working in commercial real estate research and analytics.
I'm done renting & living in a condo. I need to stay in the area, but moving a little further north where I can afford a nicer detached home with a decent backyard. Being quarantined during the pandemic was rough with myself and my daughter. We need more space because things are starting to shut down again!
